Turkey’s Political Economy and European Integration since 1980
The aim of the course is to examine analytically the leading issues
in Turkey’s political economy and the politics and economics of its
European integration process. It will make extensive use of concepts
from economics, political economy and European studies. The course consists
of three parts:
Part I (2 weeks) reviews the (recent) historical background in Turkey’s
politics and economy.
Part II (4 weeks) examines some of the leading issues in the political
economy of contemporary Turkey.
Part III (4 weeks) focuses on the politics and economics of Turkey’s
European integration process.
Requirements for the course include, in class presentations, one short
essay based on the in-class presentation and one longer paper due at
the end of the term.
All of the readings in this list will be available electronically.
For purposes of research, the students are also advised to search the
