Manuscript Templates and Guides

The following documents are available for download to aid degree candidates in the preparation of their manuscripts for submission to the Institute.

  • THE FORM OF THESES AND DISSERTATIONS (PDF)

Guidelines that explain the full content and formatting requirements for drafts and bound copies of theses and dissertations.

  • ANNOTATED SAMPLE MANUSCRIPT (PDF)

Fully-formatted sample manuscript including all possible variations of front and back matter. Detailed annotations explain the formatting and indicate paragraph styles.

  • USAGE MANUAL (PDF)

Manual explaining basic stylistic expectations and also commonly encountered grammatical, punctuation, and language usage errors. Also includes the “Manuscript Checklist.”

  • MICROSOFT WORD TEMPLATES (DOTX)

Templates that contain pre-formatted, dummy content that authors may conveniently replace with their own. All possible variations of front and back matter are accounted for in the templates.

  • APPROVAL AND TRANSMITTAL FORM (PDF)

A one-page transmittal form that degree candidates must print out, complete, have signed by their academic advisor, and submit to the editor. (In a degree candidate has both an actual, acting advisor and an official advisor, the form should be signed by the former – that is, by the professor who actually advised the student in the course of their research and writing.)

  • THESIS AND DISSERTATION TIMELINE (PDF)

Diagram of the full manuscript preparation and submission process.
